this is how i know i'm my daddy's daughter

so for my summer camp job i work with the oldest kids (those going into 4th, 5th, and 6th grades). these are also the only kids that get to go on field trips. the first one of the summer was to go with our theme for the week: things that fly. so where did we go? why the air and space museum of course!!! i was actually intrigued, but the kids were tired so we didn't stay too long. we didn't get to the museum until noonish and ended up leaving around one. but it was still pretty cool and at least two of the three kids in my group (there were 3 leaders and 9 kids, so we divided into groups, you can figure the math...) enjoyed it. one of the other leaders bought freeze dried ice cream for us all to try. not the best of all things, but it could have been worse. anyways, enjoy the pictures.

so we passed this guy on our way back to the metro station. he was juggling a basketball, tennis racket and a bowling ball. it was pretty impressive.

getting my history in...

so jim was taking his scouts on a 20 mile hike up in gettysburg to get them ready for their high adventure. lisa and i decided to go up the next day and so we met them there at about 7:30ish. we were there for 'logistics' so basically providing the hydration for the scouts. as such we weren't able to get in a ton of sight seeing but we were able to see a few things. we also went to the cemetery but i didn't take any pictures cuz my camera's battery died and i didn't have the charger on me. but it's all good. it was a cool place to be but very sombering. a little depressing on that front... however, please enjoy the pictures. i do have a video but it might take some time before i figure out how to post it...

the spider started off our trek. we found him by the car right outside the visitor center. i almost stepped on it. it was pretty gross so i'm not sure why i took a picture of it. it was big enough that i could see it quite clearly in the side view mirror when we started backing out....

scooper bowl

so these are from the scooper bowl that is done down in Boston in front of City Hall. (for those of you who don't know, the scooper bowl is an annual fundraiser for the Jimmy Fund. a bunch of ice cream companies in the area come and you get to sample their ice cream basically it's unending ice cream for $9. lots of fun).
there wasn't anything really special to take pictures of except this sand structure. they were hired by fedex. this was pretty sweet, and a lot more talent then i have ever displayed in an art project...

dad decided to take us to plum island for dinner the other night. (this is the only time that i'll probably be able to go to there this summer...) it was windy and the water was cold but it was still nice to be there. i thought i'd share the lovely pictures with those who have not been able to see this place in a while...

santa doesn't only visit in december....

so, i am leaving for virginia in about a week and a half. i'm really excited and can't wait to start my job down there!! i'm also really excited to be down in the dc area with all the historic sites and such. as i knew i'd be headed down there to this great splendor, i decided it would be nice to have a camera to take some super sweet pictures with, so that i might hold this summer in memories for years to come. it started out as just a hopeful idea, but then i decided it was something i really really wanted. as such i started looking for a cheaper, but decent digital camera. once i started mentioning the idea to the rents, they decided i should do some research to find a nice one (okay, so mostly dad...).

well dad also has a friend that owns a camera store. dad had me write down a list of what i was looking for so that i could ask tony about it. sadly, tony is closing down the store and no longer has any cameras. so it was back to the internet. after searching like crazy, and calling local stores to see if they had them in stock, i was able to find the camera that i wanted. i had intended to pay for this almost 95% of it by myself. alas, "santa" decided to come a little earlier this year and just told me not to hold my breath for christmas day...
dad and i headed to a specialty camera store in melrose, with our specific camera in mind--the olympus fe 340. we went right to the counter, told the guy what we wanted, he pulled one out and started demonstrating it for us. then he also pulled out two other cameras, that were similar but slightly better. pretty much he convinced us to change our minds.
so basically, i have a new camera. and it's awesome!

this is the exact camera i got, color and all. i originally was going to go with blue but they didn't have one in stock. so i went with black. as you can see it is a nikon coolpix s550. if you watch tv this is the camera that ashton kutcher is currently advertising....
